On Magnificence
On Magnificence, released in June 2023, is one of the most collaborative projects I have created. The album explores different expressions of awe, from nature and imagination to human connection. It feels like a collection of short musical stories, each capturing a different shade of wonder while still forming a unified whole. This album was also written during and after the passing of my father, Stephen. “In the Stars” was written in his honor and was a collaboration with my wife, Michele (aka Me~She)
Collaboration was central to the album.
Mason Lucas brings a ceremonial energy to the opening track, “Mareación.”
Me~She appears on several songs, including “In the Stars” “All the Way” and “Feel You In My Heart.”
Souleye returns on “This Way,” adding his signature uplifting hip hop element.
New Thousand contributes live instrumentation to “Grandiloquence” and “Aleatory,” bringing a vibrant, improvisational feel.
Kathleen Hooper adds vocals to “Over the Ocean,” a piece centered on longing and distance.
Lapa performs on “Grace,” adding violin that weaves naturally into the emotion of the track.
These voices and players give the album a wide range of color, and each collaboration shaped the music in a meaningful way.
The release held a personal milestone as well. It was my first album pressed on vinyl, presented as a double record with artwork by Android Jones. Seeing the music translated into a physical form felt like a major step in my journey, and the response from listeners was immediate and encouraging.
In many ways, On Magnificence gathers elements from throughout my past work: the emotional core of my earlier albums, the collaborative spirit of mid-period projects, and the intricate production methods from more recent releases. At the same time, it opened a new chapter for me, pointing toward future explorations and new forms of expression.
Each song on the album has its own origin and intention, and together they form a broad landscape of sound and feeling. My hope is that listeners find their own stories within it and experience some of the sense of wonder that guided me while creating it.
